Remembrance Day: Earls Colne Centenary Commemoration (2014)
Stane Street Players were asked to participate in the events around the centenary of the start of the First World War to be held on the 9th November, Remembrance Sunday.
The Village Hall had been a Red Cross Hospital during the war and so we played the part of wounded soldiers and their nurses. The team learned their back stories well and were surrounded throughout the event by adults and children keen to know what the experiences in the trenches and back home in hospital as a wounded soldier and their nurses were.
Our participation was welcomed and much enjoyed as part of the days programme, which was very well attended and included a display and film presentation from the Earls Colne museum, a parade from the church. a ceremony remembering those that gave their lives in both World Wars, a display of the details and lives of the 54 Earls Colne men who died in the first conflict, and refreshments supplied by the WI.
