Stane Street Players Update

Hi everyone! it’s been a strange year or so! Who would have thought that in January 2020, fresh from our award winning production of Dick Whittington, we would have been thrust into a global pandemic, putting all of our plans  on hold!

Hopefully, as we near the end of the Roadmap to normality, we can start looking at how we can get going again with new productions!

Please watch this space!

In the meantime – visit our galleries’ which have been updated with pictures from the 1980s and 1990s in Toad of Toad Hall, Outside Edge, Puss in Boots, Bedroom Farce, Educating Rita, Jack and the Beanstalk, Season’s Greetings, Hickory Dickory Dock and House Guest. For which many thanks to one time member Su Newton, and apologies as I’ve been neglecting adding these for a long time!

I’ve also updated the gallery with pictures and info for Dick Whittington and the 2019 collaboration for Dad’s Army. Enjoy reminiscing and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

Our upcoming Autumn production ‘The Titfield Thunderbolt’ A play by Philip Goulding. Based on the original Ealing comedy screenplay by T.E.B. Clarke.

The branch line between Mallingford and Titfield is losing money and British Rail is intent on closing it down. In desperation the villagers exploit the 1947 Transport Act and decide to take charge and run it themselves with a train resurrected from a local museum! As well as convincing the railway authorities that they are competent to work the line, they have to face problems from Vernon Crump who is set on providing a competitive bus service. All aboard for a rollicking evening of hilarious nostalgia!
Lady Edna Chesterford, whose grandfather started the railway and her diatribe against the interfering little Hitlers who run England with their clipboards memorably captures the subversive spirit of Ealing comedy. For collectors of cherishable English comedy, this enjoyably chaotic show is First class.
It’s a fun evening and a romp in a very old, very British tradition with some marvellous theatre effects. What more could you want? This wonderful stage version is all dished up with hilarious consequences. Very funny. A good-natured and delightful play
Charming and mischievious. Rattling good fun. The play is full of gentle humour and permeated with affection not only for the railway, but also for the era, with authentic and thoughtful touches of the 50s throughout.
An evening of fun from this cheerful and delightful play.

Cinderella – Critical review

As well as reviews in the press we also have longer critical reviews done by a local theatre guild, which many local groups belong to. Ours is the North Essex Theatre Guild

And below is their critical appraisal of our recent production of Cinderella of which we can be justly proud!
