Stane Street Players

Well hello there reader! My name is Andy Barton. I started with the group in 1993 when my mother forced her then 11 year old son to wear tights and sing a song called ‘Eggdorado’ (think Oklahoma! Music) to a bunch of strangers for the Pantomime Humpty Dumpty. The rest as they say, is history.

Since then I have been given the most amazing opportunities with the group. From farcical comedies to edge-of-your-seat thrillers, I have been fortunate enough to be involved with a brilliant variety of performances. And it is not just plays that the group involve themselves with, over the years the group have acted in corporate training videos, produced radio plays and contributed to local variety shows for charity.

It is an amazing group full of amazing people and over the years has given me the chance not just to act but also to broaden my skills in other aspects of theatre. Set design, prop supply, costume selection and backstage management are as equal if not more important than the people you see on stage. Being a part of Stane Street has given me the opportunity to experience these roles. Furthermore I even had a chance to direct, having recently directed the 2014 Pantomime, Little Red Riding Hood.

On a closing note I feel blessed for everything the group has taught me. Later this year I begin a Masters’ degree in Acting at East 15 Acting School and I can honestly say that it would never have been possible without the experiences and lessons that the group have taught me.
